Description

Drawing Process:

For “The Watchful Seahorse Mermacorn” mermaid unicorn drawing, my process includes several steps. First, the sketch is drawn softly with a light colored mechanical pencil or graphite to draft the idea. I follow up with several shades of different wax colored pencils to add depth and a sense of atmosphere to the drawing. Then graphite is drawn on top to tighten and clean the drawing as well as add details. The colored sketch remains intact and subtly visible beneath the graphite of the final drawing. This process captures not just the final illustration, but also preserves the journey from sketch to finish with each layer of color. I hope you enjoy “The Watchful Seahorse Mermacorn” drawing!

The Watchful Seahorse Mermacorn” Story:

“The shimmering oceans of Terratoff are filled with many rare wonders. They hold beneath their waves creatures of every color, mystical forgotten treasures, and a hidden kingdom protecting the borders of land and sea from the “Rotten” that lurk in the deep. Under the leadership of “The Good Sea Witch” the mer-creatures of her sunken realm protect the high kingdom on the shore from the corrupted Rotten creatures that circle the shores… waiting for an opening to strike!

Most mermacorns under the command of the Sea Witch serve as mounts, messengers, or guides thanks to their strength and incredible speed…. but not the seahorse mermacorns! Because of their coiling tails and lack of appropriate fins, the seahorse mermacorns are terrible swimmers! But what they lack in speed they make up for in other ways, and serve the kingdom through their own means.

Seahorse mermacorns can change color at will, and so they act as hidden watchers for the realm. They use their prehensile tails to latch onto underwater plant life and keep a look-out for danger while blending in with their surroundings. If they spot an intruder, they will click the rigid bones in their jaws to send subtle shockwaves that warn nearby Winnow of danger.

They also hide a protective boney skeleton beneath their thick skin, one can see it protruding through their bodies in the form of spikes or adorable bulges. Though they are slow, predators are reluctant to engage with such a prickly foe. And so, the seahorse mermacorn may enjoy a relatively quiet life of ease among the kelp while still serving their Queen most nobly.”
