Description

The Treasure Chest Mermaid Drawing Process:

For “The Treasure Chest” mermaid drawing, my process includes several steps. First, the sketch is drawn softly with a light colored mechanical pencil or graphite to draft the idea. I follow up with several shades of different wax colored pencils to add depth and a sense of atmosphere to the drawing. Then graphite is drawn on top to tighten and clean the drawing as well as add details. The colored sketch remains intact and subtly visible beneath the graphite of the final drawing. This process captures not just the final illustration, but also preserves the journey from sketch to finish with each layer of color.

“The Treasure Chest” Story:

“The World of Man”, or “Twom”, was once a world filled with magical energy and enchanted creatures. As time passed magic somehow began to fade away, and so the life of every magical creature was threatened to disappear with it. But there was yet one small hope for the creatures of Twom to live on…

One fateful day, a mermaid discovered a mysterious journal on her travels that foretold of magic’s end and how it might be saved. It spoke of an enchanted gateway to another magical realm, a realm the creatures of Twom could escape to and live on within. The key to the gate was last recorded as being carried on a ship that sank in a terrible storm.

The mermaid became convinced it was her destiny to recover the key and open the gates to the realm of “Terratoff”. She would lead as many as she could in a pilgrimage to this new realm in hopes of preserving her kind.

After searching the oceans high and low, she finally found the sunken ship described in the pages of the journal. Within it’s broken shell, she unearthed a treasure chest filled with coins, jewels, and strings of pearls. But none of those trinkets mattered to the mermaid, she was after something far more precious. Resting on top of the hoard was a sealed glass bottle that radiated with magical energy. Inside was a living sapling that glowed an eerie yet familiar light…the light of magic…the key to Terratoff was found!”
