Description
Drawing Process:
For “The Feathered Hydra” baby dragon drawing, my process includes several steps. First, the sketch is drawn softly with a light colored mechanical pencil or graphite to draft the idea. I follow up with several shades of different wax colored pencils to add depth and a sense of atmosphere to the drawing. Then graphite is drawn on top to tighten and clean the drawing as well as add details. The colored sketch remains intact and subtly visible beneath the graphite of the final drawing. This process captures not just the final illustration, but also preserves the journey from sketch to finish with each layer of color. I hope you enjoy “The Feathered Hydra Baby” Drawing!
“The Feathered Hydra Baby” Story:
For the month of August 2016 I will be creating one of a kind dragon drawings all month long! Its called #Smaugust, a monthly themed challenge to celebrate and engage with the online fantasy art community. My dragons come from the world I am creating for a fantasy series, “Terratoff”.
“This drawing is the ninth, the clumsy yet adorably fabulous feathered hydra baby. The Terratoffian hydra dragon hatchling is the most clumsy of the breeds, this is because all 5 heads must learn to become cooperative with each other…something dragons do not always excel at. Each head seems to have it’s own distinct personality, but are actually part of a greater whole. They share a hive mind and each head becomes the anchor for the creatures strongest personality traits. This baby dragon’s heads, (left to right) grumpiness, affection, leadership, wildness, silliness. The center head is anyways the leader and is the dominant personality trait as well.”
