“The End” Mermaid Drawing Process:
For “The End” mermaid drawing, my process includes several steps. First, the sketch is drawn softly with a light colored mechanical pencil or graphite to draft the idea. I follow up with several shades of different wax colored pencils to add depth and a sense of atmosphere to the drawing. Then graphite is drawn on top to tighten and clean the drawing as well as add details. The colored sketch remains intact and subtly visible beneath the graphite of the final drawing. This process captures not just the final illustration, but also preserves the journey from sketch to finish with each layer of color.
“The End” Story:
“”You must seal the gateway forever, protect Twom from this curse, and keep this magic you wield hidden from the “Rotten”…”
There once was a brave and determined mermaid who sought to rescue her kind from a terrible fate. Magic was leaving her realm. Without it, the magical creatures of “Twom” (The world of man) would surely fade away. With the power of a magical sapling planted deep in the ocean floor, she managed to open a gateway into another realm, the magical realm of Terratoff. She had hoped she might escape her fate, and that she and her kin would live on in this new realm of magic. But instead of finding a sanctuary, she almost let in a terrible plague that promised to poison all the world…
Heeding the warning of the wise mermacorn, the mermaid chose to close the gateway forever. Trapping herself and her kin inside a fading world of magic, but also saving them from the darker fate of becoming tainted by “The Rott”. “Better that we should die as we are, then forever be corrupted…”
As time passed and magic waned, survival became more challenging by the day for the magical creatures of Twom. After the mermaids lost their ability to breathe underwater, their numbers dwindled quickly. Some survived longer by donning abandoned diving helmets that provided a lifeline to the surface. With the miraculous sapling as a continuous source of magic, our mermaid managed to remain alive even longer by connecting the hose to its glass chamber.
It is said that the mermaid outlived all other magical creatures of Twom. Sailors spoke of sightings far beyond the last days of magic, right up until as recently as a few hundred years ago. Nobody knows where she might have vanished to, or if the sapling she swore to guard was still in her safe keeping… But we must pray that it remains so. For if the gates should every open between Terratoff and Twom again, the fate of both worlds would be condemned to ruin…”
