Description
Drawing Process:
For the “Seelie Snowdrop Fae” fairy drawing, my process includes several steps. First, the sketch is drawn softly with a light colored mechanical pencil or graphite to draft the idea. I follow up with several shades of different wax colored pencils to add depth and a sense of atmosphere to the drawing. Then graphite is drawn on top to tighten and clean the drawing as well as add details. The colored sketch remains intact and subtly visible beneath the graphite of the final drawing. This process captures not just the final illustration, but also preserves the journey from sketch to finish with each layer of color. I very much hope you enjoy “Who’s Queen”!
“The Seelie Snowdrop Fae” Drawing Story:
“Far beyond the veil of Terratoff lies another realm that was once filled with magical wonders and mystical creatures called “The Fae”. This land known as “Twom” (The realm of man) may have lost its magic and the fabled fae long ago, but legends of their kind still live on today.
The “Seelie Snowdrop Fae” was the first of the Seelie court to emerge each year when the winter chills would give way to the new life of spring. Her gentle magic began the process of melting away the winter snow, drawing out the snowdrop flower to bloom. A symbol of hope and new beginnings, she was the one that beckoned her kin, awakening the Seelie court each new year.
She was considered one of the most delicate and charming fae of her court, and so many humans were tempted to ensnare her for themselves. Though she was beautiful, her wrath was severe, bringing terribly bad luck to anyone who dared take her home against her will! But as long as she was left where she blossomed, the Seelie snowdrop was regarded as a welcoming sign of rebirth, and a special comfort to those who had suffered a harsh winter. Hopeful humans would eagerly await to catch a glimpse of her each new year, excited for spring to begin!
But once magic left the realm, the time finally came when she did not bloom, and so the Seelie never awoke again. Many still await her return each year, hoping she will bring the fae back with her… but such a day is unlikely to ever come.”
