Description
Painting Process:
For the “Blue Hair and the Piano” painting, my process includes several steps. I begin with a sketch that I develop into a finished drawing using wax based archival colored pencils, and graphite. Next the drawing is scanned, then printed out at a low opacity onto hot press watercolor paper. Now the painting begins! Watercolor is the first layer to establish the mood, tones, and color scheme. Then I shift back and forth between oil based colored pencils and gouache to refine and render the painting. I strive to select vibrant and archival pigments throughout my process. Check out my listing photos to see examples of the paints, brushes, and other materials I used!
“Blue Hair and the Piano” Painting Story:
“The creature was definitely a “faun”. Aaron had seen the hominoid deer folk in his dream travels to the Terratoffian realm many times before, but he had never seen one quite like this. For it possessed particularly striking features. He considered all fauns a marvelous species to behold, but this one had a strange glamour about him, and an eerily human gaze. Cascading locks of rich blue hair tumbled down to his waist, all except the few tendrils that magically hovered round his faultless face. The creature’s high cheekbones and piercing eyes of silver shimmered with unmistakable charisma and charm. Massive vertically spiraling horns resembling those of a great goat crowned his mighty brow. Though they looked heavy and powerful, the creature carried them with the same effortless ease in which he played his instrument. Seemingly unnoticing the young man gazing upon him, the faun continued to race his fingertips across the keys as the fireflies gathered closer to him…
Aaron watched in complete stillness, his eyes fixated on the creature that had yet to notice him. Despite the faun’s flawless countenance and poise, Aaron felt uneasy in its presence. However, when he saw the faun reach his hand towards one of the fireflies to let it rest in his palm, Aaron was at ease once more.
Then unprovoked it calmly said “I know you are watching…” with a coy and welcoming smile. While turning his head slowly towards the young man shivering between the trees he asked, “Won’t you come out and play?” ”
