Description

Painting Process:

For the “Dreaming Kitsune” fox painting, my process includes several steps. I began with a digital drawing, hand drawn in Photoshop using a Cintiq tablet. Next the drawing is printed out at a low opacity onto cold press watercolor paper. Now the painting begins! For this piece, ink was the first layer to establish the mood, tones, and color value. Then I shifted back and forth between watercolor, oil based colored pencils, and gouache to refine and render the painting. I strive to select vibrant and archival pigments throughout my process. “The Dreaming Kitsune” Painting Story:

“Terratoff is a paranormal fairy tale world filled with creatures of magic, beautiful landscapes, and haunting locations! The Kitsune of Terratoff are a resourceful and cunning fox race that grow multiple tails over their lifetime. They have the unique ability to travel in dreams, visiting other dreamers while they slumber.

While visiting a dream, a Kitsune is able to shape the world within the dreamers mind, either delighting them with unbelievable adventures or tormenting them with strange nightmares. Luckily, most Kitsune are friendly visitors.

A Kitsune may also enter a dream to secretly deliver an important message, warning, or prophesy to the dreamer in private. Many a Kitsune has saved a would-be victim from a terrible fate in this way.

This Kitsune is visiting a new friend he’s made while traveling in his sleep! He knows precious little of this new starlight comrade, save that they are trapped in another realm outside of Terratoff. For now, the Kitsune cannot reach his dream friend in the flesh, but when the fireflies surround him, he knows his friend is waiting. Together they dream each night, trying to find a way that they might meet… face to face.”
