Description

Drawing Process:

For “The Swift Coronation” drawing, my process includes several steps. First, the sketch is drawn softly with a light colored mechanical pencil or graphite to draft the idea. I follow up with several shades of different wax colored pencils to add depth and a sense of atmosphere to the drawing. Then graphite is drawn on top to tighten and clean the drawing as well as add details. The colored sketch remains intact and subtly visible beneath the graphite of the final drawing. This process captures not just the final illustration, but also preserves the journey from sketch to finish with each layer of color.

“The Swift Coronation” Drawing Story:

“Traditionally, Terratoff unicorn coronation ceremonies take place deep within the enchanted woods. But when the agile Swift unicorns are ready to appoint a new leader for their herds, they perform the sacred rite out in the open fields!

Swift respect speed and agility above all else. Their leader must be trusted to have the stamina to stay ahead of the herd in the event of an escape from the Rott. Their ceremony begins with a race to determine who is the fastest among them, a marathon that has been known to last as long as several days.

After the race is done, the victor will be greeted at the finish line by the unicorn foals bearing a special gift. They decorate the new leader’s mane and tail with beautiful anemone flowers. They represent anticipation of a bright future, good luck, and protection against evil. Wearing the anemones with pride, the new “shepherd” then leads their herd in a jovial parade through the valleys, leaving a trail of magic and petals behind them.”
