Description

Drawing Process:

For the “Unseelie Snowdrop Fae” fairy drawing, my process includes several steps. First, the sketch is drawn softly with a light colored mechanical pencil or graphite to draft the idea. I follow up with several shades of different wax colored pencils to add depth and a sense of atmosphere to the drawing. Then graphite is drawn on top to tighten and clean the drawing as well as add details. The colored sketch remains intact and subtly visible beneath the graphite of the final drawing. This process captures not just the final illustration, but also preserves the journey from sketch to finish with each layer of color. I very much hope you enjoy “Who’s Queen”!

“The Unseelie Snowdrop Fae” Drawing Story:

“The realm of Twom (The world of man) was once a world of magic, filled with wondrous enchanted creatures roaming the lands, just like Terratoff. But magic faded from this realm long ago, leaving only legends of the mystical fae that once ruled there…

The “Unseelie Snowdrop Fae” was the last of the Unseelie court to bloom, and viciously guarded the winter from the awakening Seelie fae when springtime came. The Unseelie Snowdrop was the bitter rival of the Seelie Snowdrop fae, fighting each new year to make winter last as long as possible!

Like other Unseelie fae, the Snowdrop thoroughly enjoyed playing tricks on humans. She would pretend to be a Seelie fae and trick passers by into believing spring had come. If they were foolish enough to bring her home with them then real mayhem would ensue! The home would forever be cursed with bad luck, and the surrounding lands doomed to bitter harsh winters that seemed to never end.

Legends say that she was the last fae ever seen in Twom. One new year she waited day and night for the Seelie Snowdrop to appear, ready to fight to keep the winter winds blowing. But the Seelie never bloomed, and the Unseelie Snowdrop Fae was left to draw out the longest and coldest winter of an age. At first she reveled in her “victory”, but as magic faded away so did she begin to wane. Tired and alone, one solemn sunrise she looked up from the melting snow and said “no more”. She closed her eyes and melted away too, never to be seen again. ”
