Description

Drawing Process:

For “The First Royal Unicorn” drawing, my process includes several steps. First, the sketch is drawn softly with a light colored mechanical pencil or graphite to draft the idea. I follow up with several shades of different wax colored pencils to add depth and a sense of atmosphere to the drawing. Then graphite is drawn on top to tighten and clean the drawing as well as add details. The colored sketch remains intact and subtly visible beneath the graphite of the final drawing. This process captures not just the final illustration, but also preserves the journey from sketch to finish with each layer of color.

“The First Royal Unicorn” Drawing Story:

“Of the four original breeds, the “Royal” was the first to bloom from the most beautiful flowers, and thus dubbed the leaders of unicorn kind by the “Mother Tree”. Gifted with great wisdom and beauty, the first Royal unicorns were raised to be the leaders of their kin. Though they are sometimes vein, they carry the responsibility of leadership with a noble pride that was hard earned. For it was the Royal unicorns who were called upon to lead in the early days of Terratoff’s first age…

When the Mother Tree became corrupted by “The Rott” darkness covered the realm. Her new plagued offspring of magical creatures, known as “The Rotten” began a bitter and bloody war with her first children, “The Winnow.” The Winnow Faun Queen rallied her people on a “Great March” out of the newly tainted “Dark Lands” but her followers were relentlessly pursued by the twisted Rotten creatures of magic. All seemed lost, until the royal unicorns began to fight back!

Unicorns are the only creatures of magic immune to the Rott, and so the Royal unicorns gathered their strongest kin and magical allies to fight off the Rotten that attacked along their pilgrimage. Many unicorns fought to the death to defend the winnow marchers, their sacrifices protecting the vulnerable Winnow from being indoctrinated by the Rott and adding to the merciless hoard.

To this day, Royal unicorns are greatly revered for the leadership and sacrifice they gave for the realm. The fighting greatly dwindled their numbers, but they still remain a powerful force for the crown. The royal unicorns and their fellow kin will be ready should the realm ever need them again… for the Rott’s return out of the shadows…”
